Nan's Song

A family story for Safer Gambling Aotearoa, helping people recognise quieter signs of gambling harm through an empathetic Māori lens.
For Safer Gambling Aotearoa, Stanley Street explored the changes in everyday behaviour that can accompany harmful gambling. The campaign centred on Nan, a recognisable family figure who could raise a difficult subject with warmth rather than blame. Her story made room for conversations between people who gamble and those who care about them.
The work was developed with cultural advisers and drew on Māori perspectives across generations. Humour and an approachable character helped communicate the warning signs while respecting the dignity of the people seeing themselves in the story.
